Amelia Vega was born in the Dominican Republic with success and beauty in her genes. Her father was a doctor in Miami and New York City, while her mother was a successful model, having been the face of the Dominican Republic in 1980 at the Miss World pageant. Amelia Vega opted for modeling over medicine and followed in her mom's footsteps and, at the ripe age of 18, she was in Panama competing for the Miss Universe pageant in 2003. When she won the contest, Amelia Vega was the youngest winner in nine years and the first winner to come from the Dominican Republic. While serving as the reigning Miss Universe, Amelia Vega devoted herself to charity by traveling the world to promote four different HIV and AIDS charities. After Miss Universe, Amelia Vega made the Big Apple her new home base, but she still traveled to the Dominican Republic regularly. In 2003, Amelia Vega earned a special award at the Pan American Games, and she even lent her singing voice to the Miss Dominican Republic 2004 pageant. Soon after, cosmetics giant Cover Girl hired Amelia Vega as a spokesmodel, and she also graced the pages of popular mags like Cosmopolitan and Vanidades.Amelia Vega then branched out into television and film. On the Telemundo network, she appeared on Voces de America, the first of two reality shows that she would host, and in 2005, she landed a supporting role in Andy Garcia's The Lost City. Donald Faison's Homie Spumoni was her second movie role and, as long as she has the beauty and desire, you can bet that we'll be seeing a lot more of Amelia Vega as her career continues to move forward.
